Members of Toronto’s corporate community play "Rock Star" to raise money for a great cause.
For the seventh straight year, Toronto’s top amateur bands took to the stage at the Rock for Dimes fundraiser in support of our Conductive Education program. The event was sponsored by Tory's LLP, Gowlings, AMG Medical Supplies, ReliAble Independent Living Services, MES Hyrbid Document Services, Dave Gillespie Photography, 6 Degrees Nightclub and media sponsor Q107.
The bands competed for bragging rights as Toronto’s best corporate band, at the same time showcasing their talents to music industry professionals. John "Flairboy" Garbutt and Sara Perzia from Media Sponsor Q107 did able duty as the evening’s hosts, and Daryn Barry, co-owner of the Orange Record Label, Poison Tour Manager Rob Stevenson, producer, musician and artist rep Andy Curran were the fantastic judges.
Oui B. Jamon, Trading Hearts, Hung Jury, Earth Shine, The Flying Hamentashens and The Gavelheads did battle at the event.
All proceeds benefit March of Dimes Canada’s Conductive Education® (CE) program. CE is an innovative program that blends elements of education and rehabilitation to improve the independence, mobility and confidence of children with disabilities, and has been especially beneficial to children with cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and developmental apraxia.
In a very close contest, Trading Hearts emerged victorious. Their original songs and spare sound won over the judges, who were impressed by the depth and quality of the music provided by all the bands.
A special thank you to the bands, judges, emcees, sponsors and volunteers. We couldn’t do it without you and we are looking forward to next year’s event!
