Christopher Munn
Christopher Munn, stroke survivor
 — Chris was enjoying his usual 10K run when he suddenly saw flashes in his left eye and developed a sharp headache. At the hospital, he was told it was a migraine. Two days later, he lost function in his right side. It was a stroke.

Chris was active and healthy – a member of the Owen Sound running club, a canoer, and a skier. But his stroke changed all that. Fortunately, March of Dimes Canada was there with support programs and funding to subsidize what insurance didn’t cover.

Today, Chris still needs physiotherapy three times a week to maintain his mobility. He’s also joined MODC’s aphasia program for weekly speech therapy, and attends one of our After Stroke support groups each month. “MODC staff and volunteers are wonderful – so encouraging and supportive,” he says.

With March of Dimes Canada’s support, Chris is integrating back into his community. He’s now able to complete small tasks around the house, have conversations, and read books. He’s even taken up new hobbies like art and dance, and adjusted to using a three-wheel recumbent bicycle. He is optimistic that, with continued support, he’ll be back on his old bike again one day.
